The Fact That It's January, 2010, Means We're Not In Kansas Anymore!

I don't know about you, but when I tuned in to watch the ball drop at Times Square and I saw "2010" show up and start flashing, I had a feeling I've never had before.

It was really something to see "2010" because it's a whole new kind of number than 1980 or 1999 or even 2000 or 2009. I don't know how to describe… Continue

It's Music - Not Football, Soccer, or Even Politics - That Will Change the World!

On this first day of 2010, I woke up to Mary Jasch's pointer to this vid and I simply have to share it here.

Throughout the holidays, I've found myself in one conversation after another with the theme, "How can I change things?" "How can WE change things?" "What can little ME do to make the world a better place... NOW?"

It was disappointing on my recent netbook shopping trip not to be able to try out either of the Asus Eee PC Touchscreen tablet-style netbooks I've been reading about since January, 2009 (the 8.9" Asus Eee PC T91 and the 10" Asus Eee PC T100H). I'…

I could meet in the afternoon that day. Any chance we could meet mid-afternoon? If not, how about once you get settled? I'll look forward to it.

Hi, Meri! It was great to meet you at the ARC board meeting and to hear your input. The ARC has a very good board. I'm looking forward to the work. It would be nice to meet for coffee. Next Wednesday or Friday?

Thanks for the info. Professionally I work with historical archives all over the state, and often end up at the UoO for newspapers, since they hold the largest collection of microfilm papers in Oregon. Most of Jim's holdings have online finding aides and if the project I am working on has a UO connection, I end up there.

In terms of his latest projects, I am a big fan of putting historical materials on the web and really appreciate what SOU had done in that regard. In terms of US, among other things, I am the chair of the Oregon Heritage Commission and so when the UoO and the State Library were looking for funding for the digitization project, they came to us.

Hi Meri...yes, I do know Jim, both from years ago when I was a grad student and then periodically professionally, when I have used UoO's Special Collections. The Oregon Heritage Commission last year made its largest grant ever to support the "Oregon Newspaper Digitization Project" at UO which will truly amazing once they get the data up on the web.

Do you work at SOU or in the library?
