Victoria, I did my MA rhesis on the Chinese in this area during the 1800s-early 1900s; what a nifty fins of materail; doubtless from the building of the tunnel. I'd love to have a look at this collection before you put it on display

You could draw or define it many different ways, but I've long considered it to be the Willamette/Umpqua watershed divide (or at the Lane/Douglas county line) where "Southern Oregon" begins. It was a term coined early by Willamette Vallety residents…
George, this sounds like hoisting Jack W by his own petard as it were. Why not? I'd have to be better educated in the specifics of all this archane $ stuff, but I'd sure be willing to write a letter or a commentary, etc.
Just a 'tip of the ol' hat" to Paris, for setting this thing up.
I'll doubtless come-and-go into this history part of the greater Rogue's current with some frequency, but may not "stay that current"...as I'll often, alas, be stuck over near shore in…
I think the motto "With a mountain spring...in every home" began in 1926-27, when the Big Butte Springs water source was connected to the city, but the photo could of course be a bit earlier... George, as the troublesome and misinformed guy who ques…
Unless a caption were to turn up, this location's probably unknowable...our riparian landscapes don't last long and are ever-changing. Bear Creek's a good (probably the best) guess, but it could just as well be Jackson Creek or some other low-gradie…
If we were actually able to locate the darned thing, perhaps the oldest "white", er, non-indigenous, artifact would be the "China bowl" his trappers saw in the Takelma village near the Rogue River when they were passing through the valley in Februar…
I just finished browsing your Thesis, "Sojourners in the Oregon Siskiyous". It's really interesting. The Ashland Railroad Museum was recently donated a group of objects from a Chinese camp near the old Siskiyou Station. These objects came when the SP moved a rail line or expanded their rail line probably in the 1970's or 1980's. Many of the object appear to match items from some of your digs and from the privy dig in Jacksonville. Would love to talk to you about this.

Please, invite all your friends who enjoy history and post any events where you or your peers might be talking about history as well as any bits of trivia we might all enjoy.
Thanks.
