Thanks one and all for your wonderful input! I will probably never be a world class photographer but I have enjoyed getting amazing shots over the years on everything from a cheapie to a higher end camera. I am going to have to just give them all a try....I will need to find something in my price range that is easy to use and one that I can delve into more deeply the more accomplished I become. For now, my only frustration with my digital is fast action. The rest of the photos are stunning and it does everything I want it to EXCEPT capture that bull moose running pell mell in front of the truck that was nothing but brown blurs when it was all over. If any of you guys are going shooting for the day, I would love to tag along. After a bad experience I no longer head out alone especially since I lost my dog to old age.
Thanks again for all your input! This valley where we live is like living in a postcard and I LOVE IT! :) Kellie

Chevy, Ford, Mercedes, BMW, it is all personal preferance. I really would never say one is better than the other. The end result is what you are looking for, and trust me, I have seen photos shot on a $100 digital that look incredible. Everyone's idea of user friendly is different. Honestly, try them out..ask a lot of questions, read reviews, but all in all, it will be the one that works best for you, that will be the best. I know Greg and Kathy LOVE their Nikons...and those that own Canons....LOVE their Canons...I wish you the very best of luck in the pursuit of your passion for Photography!

Matthew's suggestion on trying out some different models first is a good one. One of the main things you will find in the lower priced models is that they have lots of capability, but most all of the settings have to be done by going into menus and changing settings. I find this a pain and the more expensive models have more external buttons and wheels to make adjustments quickly as you shoot. Also some models of cameras have menus that are much easier to use than others. Be sure to try changing things like ISO, aperture, shutter speed and the priority of the last two and see how difficult it is for you. Some people work with menus to change everything and don't mind it. I do! I use a Nikon D-80 and it does everything I want.

I again, will add my comments. I have used both Nikon, and Canon. I find the Nikons much more difficult to use. I have very good friends who use the Nikon, and my Grandmother when she was alive, God Bless her heart, was a Nikon-aholic. I have used nearly every Canon made, from the xti, up to the 1DS MK3, and I find them all very user friendly. If you need help with your camera, after your purchase, I will be thrilled to go out with you and help you learn your new camera. Interchangeability of lenses is important, as you grow in photography, you will want your lenses to be adaptable to the newer cameras you get in time..

In the meantime.get out and have a great time with all of the great things we have to photograph, here in Southern Oregon!

Sorry, Larry.........your XT can use both EF and EFS lenses, in fact all current digital Canons can use both lenses.......the snarl comes when one tries to use an EFS lens on a film Canon.......

My daughter has a newer Rebel, the XSi, and it accepts both EFs and EF lenses, as does my XTi........

While Wiki isn't the ultimate authority, this link explains it pretty well........
