Rogue Current

I am frustrated by what I perceive to be a lack of depth in the coverage and analysis of the New Haven Firefighters discrimination case. What exactly was the promotion test, i.e. what was the nature of the questions on the exam? How many? What subject areas? How could such a test be constructed in a biased way if that were indeed the test designer's intent? Was this explained somewhere in the overall media coverage and I just missed it, or was it lacking? As people read about the case, and applaud or decry the decision, these questions seem relevant for ascertaining whether "justice" was served. I did a brief Google search and got more of "What, Who, Why, When, and Where", but just the same stuff. Still in the dark as to how someone could construct a biased test if that were their agenda. Anybody else feel this way?

Inherent in my above thread is the assumption (possibly incorrect?) that the results were thrown out as unfair because the test was "unfair". Is that not the issue here, or was the test itself not even factored in to their original decision, i.e. was their original decision to throw the results out based purely on the "undesirable" results? If this is the case, I think the media should have pointed that out a little stronger. I hope I don't sound too self righteous and perfectionistic, but as I read the coverage, I was left with more questions than answers.
Found several stories on the firefighters on the Wall Street Journal Web site. There are more, search for New Haven firefighters at wsj.com:

Thanks, Bob. Per your recco, I went to WSJ and, on the second page of search results, I found information pertaining to the race neutrality of the test. It just seemed to me that would be an important aspect of any story.
