Rogue Current

Interested in knowing how to save the Southern Oregon Historical Society and keep the properties open. Somewhere somebody said they took away the tax base that was voted on by the people. If the people voted to tax themselves to keep history alive, how can the county take it away legally?

thanks for asking coop!

the best ways to help save SOHS are:
1. know the story, and share it with everyone you know. i am always amazed at the number of people who don't realize that SOHS maintains six county-owned properties, but receives no county funds.
2. get involved in the reconstruction process. volunteer to help raise funds and awareness, host a house party, and participate in the coming community forums about what SOHS could and should be. and,
3. go to www.sohs.org -- or open your checkbook -- and make a donation. if you're not already a member, become one. encourage everyone you know to become a member; there is power and confidence in numbers. 62 years of county funding meant that SOHS never asked for money and never created a donor base. it also created an assumption that someone else is paying for history. that is now the past. the future of SOHS lies in people like you -- terrie martin, SOHS board president
